When a monk passes away during the night, the toll is sounded early the following morning. It is repeated after the funeral Mass, when the monks process down to the cemetery, and ends with a peal of all the bells. These are the last few tolls of the sequence on the largest bell in the Pacific Northwest. Please pray for the eternal repose of the soul of this monk, that he may enter into everlasting life with Christ.

This is the Stoke St Michaels band's test piece, conducted by yours truly from the tenor. At the end listen out for me forgetting to say "That's All". We came second with this, to the Cathedral's very nice ringing (see Video Response to listen to it) Shilton bells were cast in 1925 by Gillett and Johnston of Croydon. It is thought that G+J put in an extremely low bid for the job of recasting these bells. This was the era during which Cyril Johnston was attempting to persuade Coventry Cathedral to recast their old ring of ten. By providing an example of Gillett and Johnston work near to Coventry the idea was to provide an example of G+J work to local people in an attempt to sway their decision. Covenrtry Cathedral bells were duly recast by Gillett and Johnston in 1927! The tenor weighs 6-3-20 and is in Bb.
