May 23, 2010 - I'm going to try this, trying to get every one on the same page is the hardest part... our dog is so good with just us, but let someone come to visit and it is a whole other story... thanks again for the tips

May 24, 2010 - To CALL the dog to come 'up' then hold on to his paws until he struggles looks like you are 'punishing' him for doing what you TOLD him to do. As we have rescued a Lab and have had to be very patient with her in getting her comfortable with us trimming her nails, I would not want that type of training for my dog.

May 26, 2010 - Thank you! I'll have to try this with my Rottie puppy. He's not as bad as our last one, but still it's a pain.

Jun 16, 2010 - @3VWsdriver that is kind of what i was thinking. but, he might have only done it that way for the sake of filming it...

Jun 17, 2010 - half the people want the dog to jump, half want the dog to stay down, the other half are wrstling with it. thats 3 halves if im not mistakenXD btw this solved my dogs problems!
smoon3 Says:
Jun 23, 2010 - This didn't work, it only caused the dog to bite on my hands and made him more excited.

Jun 23, 2010 - I have the same problem as smoon3 Dog just bites my hands and gets excited I tried holding his hands longer but he contines this wrestling action What can I do?
pebc7 Says:
Jun 26, 2010 - @3VWsdriver I agree with what you said there. I've got a couple of rotts and didn't want to make the mistake of confusing them so I modified what I learned here somewhat. I waited till one of my dogs jumped on me then I held his paws. After about two or three times, he stopped doing it.
3VWsdriver Says:
Jun 26, 2010 - @pebc7 That might be a better idea. Our Lab does not jump up on us That much but when she does (unbidden), I think we'll try it. Good to know it did the trick with your Rotties. I am hoping to be able to return to this site with good news, down the road.

Jul 6, 2010 - I now have a 4 year old yellow lab that my daughter and son-in-law caused so many problems that they gave her to me . Most of the issues except two very annoying habits I've had success in fixing and with this video advice on jumping, she is a lot more sociable to be around. The last problem is slow, she crotch sniffs which we call dolphin poking, everyone she meets. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks again for the easy and quick jumping solution.

Jul 12, 2010 - Useful tip! What I did in the past was lightly stepping on dog's rear paws. The only thing I achieved was he bacame a master in avoiding his paws being stepped on :) "Aft paws method" is much better.
